Dog news: Cocker spaniel lands dream job as Grant’s Whisky sniffer | Nature | News

The one-year-old cocker spaniel Rocco got the dream job as the official tracker of Grant’s Whiskey. His role means that he has to find out the quality of the barrels in the cooperage to make sure they can hold the whiskey perfectly as it matures. When he’s done checking the quality of the wood, Rocco rummages around the rest of the distillery to make sure everything is going according to plan.

When Rocco smells something that requires attention, it’s reported to Associate Global Brand Director Chris Wooff.

Mr. Wooff said, “Wood is a natural material and whiskey distillation is an organic process. So it is our job at Grant’s Whiskey to make sure everything is perfect as the whiskey ages in the oak barrels.

“A dog like Rocco’s sense of smell is 40 times stronger than a human’s, and we specifically selected and trained Rocco to smell anything that isn’t quite right as the whiskey matures.
